Have You Tried To Sell Soap Online?

No?

Well I have.

And guess what? I failed miserably.

However failing at selling soap online was good for me because it taught me 2 things.

First it taught me something I already suspected, I suck at network marketing. You see, I’d tried network marketing a couple of other times before and failed then too. But the third time I tried and failed I knew WHY I failed. And that brings me to the second thing I learned when I tried to sell soap online.

And it’s the second thing that is the most important thing I learned so that’s why I’m sharing my network marking failure with you.

You see, when it comes to selling soap or anything online, your success or failure depends on 1 thing, YOU.

That’s right. You are the one in control. You are the one making the decisions. So your success or failure is up to you.

Now there are thousands of things you can sell online and almost as many ways to sell them. And for most people, the way you judge your success is by how much money you make. Which means to make money you have to sell something. And the way to make more money is by selling more.

More Sales = More Money

It’s been several years since I tried my last network marketing attempt. And during those years I went into affiliate marketing. Later I became a reseller of digital products. Now, in the 7 years I’ve been selling affiliate and digital products online, I’ve found that there are five important tools that help me make sales.

Want to know what these five tools are and why they are so important?

First I’ll tell you why they’re so important. They are important because:

* They don’t cost a penny to use.
* They work over and over again.
* They are under your control.

Want to know where to get them?

You don’t have to. You already have them.

That’s right. You already have the five most important and powerful tools to help you make money online.

So what are they?

The five most powerful tools you can use are:

Tool #1: Mindset. Most people hate selling so you have to convince yourself that selling isn’t bad.

Now unless you’re a sleaze ball who doesn’t mind selling anything to anyone, the fact that you are trying to sell something makes your subconscious work against you.

You have got to get over it!

And the best ways to make yourself more comfortable with selling things is by:

  • Only offering quality products that you believe in.
  • Believing that you are making money by sharing information about the things you believe in.

Yes, there are people making money by selling inferior products and things they know nothing about. But these are the guys who could sell soap to the Charlie Brown comic strip character Pig-Pen or body enhancement products by sending out millions of illegal emails!

And since you’re not 1 of them, you have to get the right mindset.

Tool #2. Education. Whether you’re selling soap or digital “how to” information, nothing comes close to the power of educating your readers.

So the first thing you have to do is give your readers information that educates them. You must teach them something.

By providing information in all your promotional tools like, ezine articles, reports, sales letters, etc. you’ll have readers thinking “This person
knows something”. And when they think you’re sharing useful information they’ll take a closer look.

Tool #3. Entertainment. When you provide content, keep in mind that good content is usually not enough.

Remember when you were in school? Did you ever have a teacher that talked for 55 minutes and almost put you to sleep? I know I did.

That’s why when I taught computer programming classes to business majors I tried to be entertaining. Asking questions was only good if they were awake and I kept them awake by doing fun things.

So when you provide content, make it fun. Make it entertaining. Use things like:

* Illustrations
* Funny stories
* Analogies
* Outrageous statements

to keep your readers awake and interested.

Tool #4. Emotion. Whether it’s outrage, excitement or curiosity, people are driven by their emotions.

You don’t have to believe me. Just watch what people do and listen to what they say.

Remember the last time you told someone how good or bad something was? Did you tell them because they asked or because you just had to share? Did you get excited or mad? Did your emotions rub off onto your listener?

Your job is to get their emotions going. Fill them with hope. Empower them. Give them courage. Motivate them.

Everyone wants more than education and entertainment. We all want to make our lives better so compel your readers to do something to do just that.

Always fill your readers with hope and expectation.

Tool #5. Honesty. Nothing is harder that making that first sale. But when you’re trusted you can sell to your customers over and over again.

Have you ever purchased a product and found it wasn’t worth the money? Did you contact the seller and ask for a refund?

Whether you asked for a refund or not, did you ever buy anything from them again?

We all want what we pay for so when someone buys from you give them what they expect. And to make them really happy to do business with you again, give them more.

Always remember:

  • When it comes to selling online, your success or failure depends on YOU.
  • You already own the 5 most powerful tools you need and it’s up to YOU to use them.

To Your Success,
Susan

    Extremely good article.

  2. Very good article. We need to be reminded that we already have the tools to sell – and selling is so important for every business, particularly in this environment.
