Who Do These Internet Gurus Really Want To Help?
Since I’ve been doing internet marketing for more than 7 years I can’t remember how many times I’ve read, “I want to help you” in a sales pitch, email message or in an article written by 1 of the well know internet marketing experts.
Did I believe them. Well, maybe a little because some of what they said made sense and because they were always harping about how you have to give before you can get. So, yes, I guess you could say I believed they did want to help me because they were using their own method of helping me with the hope that at some point I would buy something.
Today however I don’t believe that most of them really want to help me or, even more importantly, most of the people starting out or struggling in internet marketing. And I’ll tell you why…
Last week I read an article about how to make money during the recession. I won’t tell you who wrote it however you may run across it because it’s posted on his blog. Anyway, the article says that money doesn’t disappear during a recession it just moves. And to make money during these hard economic times you just have to follow the money. OK, that makes sense.
However I found the advice he gave in his article rather distressing. His entire article was about how during a recession those who are trying to make money selling products and services to the masses are not going to make money by lowering their prices. According to him these great numbers of people now will not spend enough to make it worthwhile. Instead, we should all move our efforts to those who have money and because there are fewer of them we should sell them more expensive things.
To prove his point he mentions how he has been flying all over the country for the last couple of months. And while being in the first class section he’s noticed that first class is still always sold out and it’s the coach section that’s becoming less occupied.
Now I was extremely upset after reading that article. But rather than blow my top and leave a comment I might regret I decided to just block his advice from my mind. And that was working until today when I read another article by another guru.
This guru will also remain nameless however he too has posted his article on his blog. The topic of the second internet marketing expert was about the attendance at recent internet marketing seminars. Because so many now do not have the extra hundreds or thousands of dollars to attend these events the audiences are getting smaller. However he points out that the smaller number of attendees is a good thing because that means that those who still have the money to attend will do much better at networking with others who also have money. And I do believe he is absolutely correct.
So why am I upset since I believe much of what they said is true.
I’m upset because:
- The recession is making it harder for people who don’t already have money to make money.
- These guys who always said they wanted to help regular people learn to make money online are now basically saying to forget about the people who need to make money since they don’t have any and concentrate on teaching and networking with those who do.
So who are these gurus really trying to help?
I think the answer is simple. They want to continue living the style they’ve become accustomed so they are out there to help themselves. They’ll help you if you have money to spend. If there’s not enough of you with enough money they’ll just pick up their tent and move on to greener pastures.
Yes, these internet marketing gurus have good business sense and will probably continue to make lots of money. However while they’re doing it they are also making the gab between the have’s and the have-not’s a lot wider.
So take their advice if you believe that’s how you want to make money online. As for me, I’m sticking with the group who want help and need it the most. It may not make me the richest internet marketer online but it will help me achieve my goal of helping as many people as possible.
To Your Success,
Susan
P.S. You may have noticed I’ve not updated my flicks this month or put anything out at dollar-saver-deals for awhile. 2 reasons: summers are hectic and I’m getting more involved in a volunteer project. I am keeping up with the resale rights membership site but that’s about it right now.

Susan,
I have to say I admire your friendly philosophy. I’ve been on your list for a couple of years now and remain on your list because I feel that I can trust what you have to say. I understand your anger completely. Nothing irritates me more than some self-styled Guru who is obviously just trying to sell some overpriced miraculously wonderful instant “no work involved” income creator.
You have a low key style that I believe is genuinely indicative of someone who really wants to help others and really does want to help those who need help the most.
Smiles and Good Fortune,
Teresa
