Automated Twitter – How The Machines Communicated In The Terminator Movies!
As a SciFi buff I’ve seen all the Terminator movies and probably all the others about machines taking over the world. And while I was watching these movies I never wondered how the machines communicated with each other. I just knew they did.
However now that I am a Twitter user I have logically proven to myself that while Twitter is a good social networking method for humans it’s an even better one for machines.
Want proof?
OK, here it is:
1. You can follow others by using “Twitter Automatic Follow” sites and software and “Twitter Automatic Follow” comes in 2 flavors:
* First you can automatically follow anyone who starts following you.
* Second, you use software that automatically finds others for you to follow and then automatically adds you to their list of followers.
2. You can unfollow others by using “Twitter Automatic Unfollow” sites and software. Using this software in conjunction with Twitter Automatic Follow allows you to unfollow those Twitterers who don’t follow you back.
3. You can set up “Automatic Twitter Posts” using sites, software, plugins and autoresponders. And like Twitter Automatic Follow, Automatic Twitter Posting comes in 2 flavors:
* First you can have these automatic post happen instantly when you do something like update your blog or send out an autoresponder message.
* Second, you can use sites and software that will hold your pre-written Twitter posts and Tweet them on a pre-defined schedule.
4. Even if you’re following just a few active Twitterers it’s not humanly possible to read all their Tweets unless you’re willing to spend all your time on Twitter.
5. If you join into 1 of the Twitter “Trending” (aka hot) Topics you’ll see there are hundreds and sometimes thousands of Tweets being sent about this particular topic every minute.
In fact, using all the automated Twitter sites and tools available it’s possible to automate everything on Twitter except for setting up your Twitter account and reading the Tweets of those you follow.
And that’s where the machines have it over us humans. They have the processing power to assimilate all the Tweeted information we humans don’t even have the time to read. A machine could easily read all the Tweets from the thousands of Twitterers it was following while most of us humans can’t keep up when we’re following less than 100.
Automated Twitter Could Be How Machines Found, Followed And Communicated With Each Other!
And since I’m not a machine……
I Do NOT Do Any Form Of Twitter Automatic Follow Or Twitter Automatic Unfollow!
I am a human being and I want to find and network with other human beings who share a common interest and want to exchange information about that interest. And while I may be 1 of the few not using any form of automatic following or unfollowing I am adamant about it.
In fact I feel as strongly about it as I do about the use of computers. More than 30 years ago when big computers were just starting to be used by businesses and industry I went into computer science not because I liked computers but because I actually hated them. It seemed every time a bank or business started automating their statements errors suddenly appeared. I got tired of hearing about computer mistakes and decided if computers were going to be used to control my money and my bills, I was going to be in control of them.
And that’s how I feel about my accounts on Twitter and other social networking sites. I created these accounts to find people and exchange information and am not about to relinquish my control over who I follow or who follows me to some stupid computer.
If a machine wants to find followers and only wants to follow those who follow them back them let them create their own Twitter accounts!
My account, my followers and those I follow are under my control and I intend to keep it that way. And if I ever decide to follow a machine’s Twitter account it will only be because I want to monitor what those machines are doing.
Remember, I watched all those Terminator movies and I know those machines communicated with each other. I don’t know if they were using Twitter but if they were, they weren’t using my account!
To Your Success,
Susan
P.S. Since I don’t automatically follow my followers I’ll tell you my quick method for how I choose who to follow in my next article, “My Alternative To Automatic Twitter Follow.”
