Article Marketing VS Social Media Marketing For SEO
Back in the days before blogs and other social media sites I posted articles in article directories. And while I didn’t consider article marketing a part of my search engine optimization strategy because even then there was a lot of controversy about the usefulness of duplicate content and duplicate anchor text, I did consider it as part of my overall traffic strategy. Then earlier this year Matt Cutts put the whole duplicate content argument to rest with the following video.
Matt Cutts View of Article Marketing for SEO
A few months later Matt explained 1 reason why social media marketing could be considered part of your SEO strategy.
Matt’s View of Social Media Marketing for SEO
As a Google SEO expert, Matt’s comments about article marketing and social media marketing for SEO are valid. And while I never considered article writing as part of my SEO plan I must admit I haven’t’ submitted an article to an article directory for a couple of years because the amount of traffic I was getting dropped significantly when blog type social media sites like Squidoo and HubPages became available.
I would be very interested in your views on the effectiveness of article marketing and social media marketing as part of your overall traffic strategy.
To Your Success,
Susan

Ralph posted the website link on Facebook and then received lots of likes…
Article marketing is a challenging issue, of which I’ve been engaged for for nearly ten years. Initially, I wrote articles for my website, where the target audience was Bunganut Lake (in Lyman, ME). As a result, I was able to place those same pieces on other websites as a contributor, and thus improve my website’s visibility on the ‘Net. The biggest problem I faced? Finding other websites that stole my material; can anyone spell p-l-a-g-a-r-i-s-m? There’s a website called Copyscape.com, which helped me to identify the culprits.
Now that I’m a self-published author (with a second book presently in development) of Christian poetry, I blog individual poems on numerous types of websites – poetry, author, social networking and so forth. With each posting, I include a link back to my primary marketing page. So (in theory) it’s becoming increasingly easier for anyone to find me. It’s only a matter of time before I should start seeing significant gains from my marketing efforts. By blogging, I’m creating a transparent layer between myself and my market niche; it demonstrates that I’m a real person (and not some faceless corporation) whereby I can be reached for direct interaction.
