Increase Web Site Traffic With Traffic Exchange Program – Part 4

In my last article about increasing traffic with traffic exchange programs I mentioned the “10,000 hits a day system,” shared the 8 steps for that system and explained how to do efficient surfing to earn the most traffic credits in the least amount of time.

However the “10,000 hits a day system” didn’t just teach you how to manually surf your traffic exchanges for credits, it was also 1 of the first places that had a way to build a downline.

Now if you’ve ever done any MLM or network marketing or joined any safelists or viral programs you’re probably familiar with what a downline is. But just in case you’re a new affiliate marketer who doesn’t know about any of these “opportunities” and don’t know what a downline is I’ll give you a quick, simplified explanation.

A downline is a list of those people you have recruited to use and promote a certain “opportunity.” MLM and network marketers earn money by selling their products and they also earn money from the sales of those they have recruited (their downline) to sell the same products. Safelists and viral list building programs are set up to work pretty much the same way. You recruit others to join your safelist or viral list building program only instead of receiving money from selling the opportunities products you have the opportunity to email those you’ve recruited to try and sell your own products.

So far, every traffic exchange program I’ve joined allows you to build a downline to earn additional traffic credits. In other words, you recruit others to join the same traffic exchange and get some percentage of traffic credits when your downline members surf.

Do you remember all those pages I mentioned you had to download, change and upload with the “10,000 hits a day system” and that you didn’t have to do that any more? That’s because traffic exchange downline building has evolved and is now much easier.

In the old system, you had to download the web pages that contained the links to 30 traffic exchange programs. You then joined the exchange programs through the links thus building someone else’s downline. You then changed the links to be your referral links, uploaded the web pages and recruited others. As others joined the exchange programs through your links, you built your downline.

But you don’t have to do that any more.

Many traffic exchange programs, affiliate programs, and other types of membership sites now offer a traffic exchange downline builder. That means instead of spending a few hours downloading pages, joining programs, changing links and uploading web pages, you can go into someone else’s site, join programs, enter your referral ids and click a submit button. You are not usually required to join all the programs listed and you can usually use your existing referral id for those programs where you’re already a member. If the list contains programs you haven’t joined and don’t want to join then the referral id entered by someone in your upline is used. (Upline – the person who recruited you, the one who recruited them, etc.)

So now you’re probably wondering if downline builders work and if  it’s worth your time to build a downline?

From my experience with building traffic exchange program downlines and downline builders I learned that it’s very much like everything else in online marketing. Most people who try it are not willing to spend the time to do it right. They want “instant traffic” and “instant success.”

When I was actively promoting the old “10,000 hits a day system” where you had to have your own site and manually change the referral links, I found:

* Around 60% of my downline never surfed or refered others.

* Of those that did surf, at least half quit within the first few months after starting.

* A few of those in my downline were successful at recruiting others. However even with some success, many of them gave up.

Using an automated downline builder made it easier to be successful. The percentage of those who surfed did not improve however the number of people I recruited went up.

And having a gigantic downline on a traffic exchange program like Jim Daniels, Stone Evans and Brian Garvin can get you some significant traffic even if only 10% of them surf!

Can you build a traffic exchange downline as large as theirs? Probably not unless you host your own automated downline builder. However even if you don’t host one it is still possible to build a downline to get some free traffic.

Therefore my answers are:

Yes, downline builders do work.

And yes, it is worth your time to build a downline if that’s something you want to do and are willing to do the work.

Like other forms of website promotion and online businesses, traffic exchange programs and downline builders aren’t for everyone. Many people don’t ever try them because they think they are a complete waste of time. Of those who do try them most will give up after a short period because either they don’t know how to use them correctly or they don’t want to spend their time and energy on them. Then there are some like me who have been using traffic exchanges to get traffic to build our lists for several years. Most of us only enter our information in the available downline builders because they’re there and we direct a few people to them with our occasional recommendations. And then there are those few who diligently work to build their downlines because that’s the business model they’ve chosen. They heavily promote 1 or 2 downline builders and encourage their downline members to do the same. And yes, they make money building their downlines because it is a form of network marketing.

Conclusion:

In the article that inspired this series I pointed out that some of the most successful online marketers use traffic exchange programs.

So in part 1 of the series I tried to explain how traffic exchange programs work.

In part 2 I listed the 8 things that can make surfing for traffic a waste of time.

Then in part 3 I told you how the old “10,000 hits a day system” worked and more importantly, how to surf faster to get the most traffic credits.

And in this, the final article of the series, I’ve tried to briefly explain how downline builders work and how some of the internet marketing gurus have built such massive traffic exchange downlines.

I wrote these articles because I firmly believe that traffic exchange programs are 1 of easiest free ways to drive traffic to your site. I also believe they are underused because most people think they only deliver untargeted traffic. However, just like everything else on and off-line, you have to know how to use them correctly to make surfing for traffic work for you.

To Your Success,
Susan

P.S. As I mentioned in this article, downline building is a form of network marketing. However they are starting to appear more and more in the affiliate marketing arena.

Here are 3 Examples of Downline Building in Affiliate Marketing:

* Advertising Know How – A traffic exchange program that has a downline builder that includes other traffic exchange programs and affiliate sites.

* Affiliate Funnel – Contains a downline builder for both traffic exchanges and safelists and they provide some training on how to use them. There’s also a downline builder where members may enter their own program so it will be shown to their downline. Plus they provide sales pages for several affiliate products like “Underground Salesletters” and your own recommendations page. I really like what they’ve done with Affiliate Funnel and it’s the first downline building program I’ve actually considered promoting.

* Traffic Secrets Unleashed – Contains a downline builder that includes several affiliate sites plus GDI

First, thanks for the astute post. I really like your website and find it very educational. I admire your talent of saying (by blogging) little things that others do not take the time to say. I found it by doing a quest on Bing as a consequence I sure will come back here when I have more time. Thanks

  3. I can not agree with you in 100% regarding some thoughts, but you’ve got an interesting point of view.
