Don’t Make A Stupid Mistake

Have you ever gone to the store to get something and then returned home only to find out you forgot to get what you went for?

How about finding a lost item in an unexpected and inappropriate place, like your car keys in the refrigerator.

If these types of things never happen to you, congratulations because you’re better than the majority of us who make silly, stupid mistakes.

You see, we’re not forgetful. We’ve just got a lot on our minds and sometimes our brains are so busy thinking about other things, our bodies work on auto-pilot. That’s why we sometimes find things in the least expected places and don’t do what we set out to do.

Now the reason I’m talking about some of the stupid mistakes we make is because today I saw 1 of the biggest ones I’ve seen in internet marketing. Today I watched a video where the person repeatedly said to fill out the form below to get additional information.

Telling your site visitor to fill out a form for additional information is not a mistake. It’s done all the time because it’s a good “call to action” and leaves no doubt in the mind of your visitor about what you want them to do.

Telling them to fill out a form 5 or 6 times in a short 2 – 3 minute video may be a mistake. I guess it depends on how you word it and your tone of voice however when someone tells me to do something that many times in a very brief interval I consider it pushy.

And while I don’t think being pushy or full of hype are good ways to promote your business, they still don’t come close to the biggest mistake I saw today.

So what was this big, fat, stupid mistake?

There was no form on the page to fill out to get the additional information!

That’s right.

This person created a lot of content. They created a fairly good video except for the over used “fill out the form below for additional information.” They set up an autoresponder to collect the information. They were driving traffic to their site. But they forgot to put the form on the page.

Fortunately the person who owned that site discovered their mistake quickly and corrected it.

Not having a form to collect information for building your list is only 1 of many stupid mistakes we could make. So here’s a really short list of the important mistakes you don’t want to make.

Stupid Mistakes To Avoid:

1. Not making it clear to your site visitor what they are to do.

2. Not making it easy and simple for your site visitor to perform the action you desire.

Almost all of us make stupid mistakes. At least I know I do. And while most mistakes, stupid or otherwise, can be overcome, making either of the 2 mistakes listed above can really hurt your business.

To Your Success,
Susan
